The Vicious Cycle Of Excessive Work And Abusive And Excessive Drinking And The Inspiration For Alcohol Rehab

Work was becoming too chaotic for a young police officer named Lonnie. Although he had only been on the police force for five-and-a-half years, he was already very well known as a very hard worker who almost never said no to working overtime. In actual fact, he was now working ten to fifteen hours of overtime each week and, consequently, he felt like he was losing his grip on his personal life. What made the situation more complicated, however, was the fact that Lonnie started going out drinking with a gang of fellow officers after work.

Visibly Lonnie was in a emotional and health related rut and experiencing some negative signs of alcoholism. Where Lonnie truly experienced drinking related problems and alcoholism signs, however, was in his family life and in his marriage. His wife wasn't really a nag, but she commonly encouraged him to stay at home more with her and with the kids rather than going through all of his money while drinking with his friends.

When he was really honest with himself, it was clear to Lonnie that his abusive and excessive drinking was adversely affecting his health, work, relationship with his family, and his pocketbook. So one Friday morning Lonnie got energized and arrived at a decision to talk to Richard, a trusted old police officer friend that he greatly respected.

Lonnie mentioned to Richard how irresponsible and hazardous drinking was negatively affecting his pocketbook, health, work, and his relationship with his family. Richard articulated to Lonnie that he totally understood because approximately eleven years ago, he too involved himself with abusive and unhealthy drinking. In point of fact Richard stated to Lonnie that irresponsible and hazardous drinking can cause so many difficulties in an individual's life that just about everything of significance can be ruined. And finally, Richard recommended that Lonnie schedule an appointment with an alcohol therapist at the work-affiliated drug and alcohol abuse rehab center.

Due to the fact that his employee's assistance program was affiliated with this rehab facility, it was not only quite affordable but also very convenient to get some quality counseling about his abusive and unhealthy drinking. And since the staff at the substance abuse rehabilitation facility was supportive, competent, and non-judgmental, Lonnie would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.

After talking to his therapist about how his drinking was ruining his health, work, relationship with his family, and his pocketbook, Lonnie understood that he was burning the candle at both ends with his crazy work hours and his careless and excessive drinking. Once he understood that he was getting himself into a rut, after detoxification and with the help of his psychologist, and after twenty-five weeks in treatment, he was at long last able to quit drinking and stop working overtime.

The result was that Lonnie perceived life in a different way now that he was in alcohol recovery and learned about alcoholism facts. Stated briefly, due to his alcohol therapy he not only had more quality time to spend with his family, but he felt better and more healthy, he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, and he was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children. Paradoxically, now that he quit drinking, Lonnie and his wife were not only beginning to save some money for a different house but he also felt more energized and alert than anytime since he and his wife were married.
