A Young Lady Stops Drinking, Suffers Through Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Comes To A Decision To Get Alcohol Treatment

Kayla is a twenty-six-year-old quality improvement consultant who has been ingesting alcohol quite heavily since she and her fiancee broke off their relationship. Indeed, for the past eight months she has been drinking just about one-and-a-half bottles of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number bottles of beer all the way through the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so abusively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.

After feeling dejected because she was beginning to neglect her health, Kayla finally told herself that she's had enough, that it's time to quit feeling sorry for herself, that it's time to stop the abusive and hazardous drinking, and time to get on with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 9:30 AM, she came to a decision that she would stop drinking cold turkey.

When she called her best pal and informed her that she had quit drinking and that after a few hours she abruptly began experiencing flu-like symptoms, Nicole, her best buddy, told Kayla to call her medical doctor and explain what was happening.

Her medical practitioner told her that she may be suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or relative drive her to the emergency room ASAP. Evidently her family doctor had called ahead and informed the emergency room treatment team to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by a nurse and a paramedic who immediately told her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.

An emergency room doctor administered some meds to address her flu-like symptoms and also administered some drugs to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her circulation system. After a couple of hours, Kayla was removed from the ER and wheeled to the recovery room.

After she was in recovery for around three hours, Doctor Katz, an alcoholism and alcohol abuse specialist, came to see her. He took his time and explained in a clear fashion that Kayla had gone through alcohol withdrawals when she quit drinking because she had become addicted to alcohol.

He then stated that with repeated and excessive drinking, the person's brain slowly but surely adapts to the alcohol so that it can execute tasks and operations in a "routine" way. When the person then all at once stops consuming alcohol, it can be stressed, the brain responds by bringing forth alcohol withdrawals. Not only this, but her doctor also clearly explained the different alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol dependent person commonly goes through as the disease gets progressively worse.

Fortunately for Kayla, it was verified that she was in the first stage of alcohol dependency and, as a result, she obtained a favorable prognosis for a total recovery if she gets the alcoholism rehabilitation she requires.

Kayla told the medical practitioner that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to reclaim her life and her health. She also articulated that she has an excellent hospitalization plan that will probably pay for most, if not all, of the costs needed for treatment. It was apparent that Kayla was quite thankful about her encouraging prognosis and felt at ease knowing that she will be able to get the alcoholism rehabilitation she requires so that she can begin the path to recovery.
