A Nurse Practitioner Is Disturbed About Her Dreadful Depression And Makes Up Her Mind To Refrain From Drinking

For the past twenty-six years Carolyn has been a professional nurse at a small trauma hospital. As a nurse practitioner, she evidently knew what to tell her patients regarding their health problems but in her personal life, then again, she definitely didn't practice what she taught. For example, she frequently drank in an abusive and hazardous manner, she hardly ever exercised, she smoked nearly two packs of cigarettes on an everyday basis, and she was around forty-nine pounds overweight.

One afternoon on her way to her job, Carolyn got into a traffic accident. Since the accident was her fault and because her speech was garbled when she spoke, the arresting policeman administered a breathalyzer test. In concurrence with standard police policy, when an individual gets involved in a car accident and fails to pass a sobriety test, the person has to spend at least two hours in the municipal jail.

In point of fact, Carolyn should have known better than to drive after she had been drinking because she recently attended an alcohol abuse awareness class at the hospital that centered on statistics, issues, and information about long term alcohol effects such as the following: alcohol poisoning, DUIs, binge drinking, and the primary differences between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

It almost goes without saying that Carolyn felt disgraced about her vehicle accident. In addition she was feeling quite a bit of shame about the fact that the accident was her fault. And possibly worst of all she was feeling quite a bit of shame about the fact that she was driving after she had a few drinks. As Carolyn contemplated this event, then again, she perceived how fortunate she was because later in life her drinking problems could have been a lot worse due to the long term effects of alcohol.

In any event, Carolyn's humiliation about her car accident made her reconsider her life and make some remarkable and positive alterations. First, she was going to stop drinking in an irresponsible and hazardous manner. This would certainly help her avoid long term alcohol abuse. Second, she was going to stop smoking. Third, she was going to lose some weight. And fourth, she was going to start exercising.

As troubled and depressed as Carolyn was about the total traffic accident circumstance, she used this sorrowful experience as a trigger for positive change. Furthermore, she used her heartrending experience as a real source of revelation that she had been failing to address her own health while she openly told others how to live in a more healthy manner. At last, she eventually saw the hypocrisy in her behavior and made up her mind that she would live her life as a positive source of encouragement for the patients she treated at the hospital.
